So i thought i would go ahead and tell my story of the birth of me and Paul's first child, our little boy William James Dunn. William or to me Liam was due to be born september 8. On September 7 i was scheduled to see my doctor, doctor Falk for my 40 week appointment. I went in and was 2 cm dialated and 50% effaced, doctor Falk went ahead and stripped my membranes and said if Liam does not come by friday we will go ahead and schedule you for an induction. So me and Paul left expecting to be getting a call later that week to find out the time we would be induced. Well i dropped Paul off at work and I headed over to one of my good friends houses. By 12 that afternoon i began to notice that the braxton hicks contractionsi had been having were becoming to be more frequent just uncomfortable did not think anything of it. I decided though that i would go ahead and head home to take a nap. Over the course of the next four hours during my time of trying to sleep the contractions were getting a little bit of an edge nothing to painful but not just tightening anymore. At four I started to time them and realized they were five min apart but still nothing to painful, but I text Paul and told him when he got home we would need to time my contractions. Paul got home and they were still 4 to 5 min apart. We went for a walk and they began to be more painful. I had already called some of my family at this point thinking ok this could really be it. We got back home and i got into the bath because this whole time i was fealing all of the contractions really strong in my lower back and it was really starting to hurt. When I got out of the bath I knew this was real. I began to cry because the contractions hurt my back so much. We timed them again and they were no more than 2 to 3 min apart. I waited so long because the hospital is 30 min from us and I did not want them to have a chance to send us back home. We got in the car and headed to Gateway. We got there about 10pm and had to wait 10 min in the hall to get registered and that sucked so bad i just leaned against the wall breathing through the pain best i could. I got into triage and got hooked up to the monitor, indeed my contractions were two min apart and i was close to 4 cm. But come to find out i was having coupleting contractions which meant i would get two contractions back to back then get a 2 min break then start again and it was all back labor which pretty much feels like your spine is getting broken in two. So for an hour i sat in this little room with nothing to help the pain no heat or anything every position was horrible all i can say is i have a wonderful husband who stood by my side the whole time. At just after 11 they checked me again i had dialated about another half cm but the way she was saying things i was so afraid they were going to send me home and tell me to come back when i was like a 5. But they called the doctor and came back in inserted my iv and started the epidural right there in triage thank goodness. Getting through the epidural was the last really hard thing i had to endure. Sitting through the contractions on top of eachother was so hard but the nurse and Paul were so helpful. Once the epidural kicked in things went so smooth. I progressed wonderful through the night and was 10 cm by 5am. My L and D nurse was also able to get Liam to turn the right way for delivery, stupid back labor. At 0535 on September 8 i pushed for 10 min and Liam was out! The doctor said she was jealous for how smooth everything went for me. Liam is just perfect and we love him so much. We really feel pretty spoiled so far course i have gotten hardly any sleep just being a paranoid first time mom but its ok i am not feeling to exausted yet. Paul has been by my side this whole time and I am so greatful to have such a wonderful husband and father to my son!
